If you have ever tried to lose weight, you know how hard it can be. Everywhere you look, there are advertisements for foods that are not good for us, with fast food places popping up all over the place. It is very easy to give into temptation. The following tips are very helpful when trying to loose weight.
First, drink water and lots of it. Water will not only flush toxins out of the body, but it will help to fill you up. Drink a glass before each meal. Also when you are hungry during the day, reach for a glass of water first. Often times when we are thirsty, we mistake it for hunger and eat. If after drinking a glass of water and waiting half an hour, you are still hungry, find a healthy snack. If you are not a huge water fan, consider adding fruit to infuse it with flavor. You may find that drinking iced water will also help with water consumption. You can drink green tea for your water intake as this is also beneficial to your health due to the antioxidants. Green tea has also been said to speed up your metabolism.
Never skip breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. This may sound cliché, but it is true. Make breakfast a priority. Consider getting up a few minutes earlier to make a healthy breakfast before heading out for the day. Or get your breakfast ready in advance. You can easily make a breakfast wrap from a whole wheat tortilla, scrambled eggs, spinach, and a bit of cheese. Make a batch and freeze them, then when you need a breakfast on to go, simply toss in the microwave to heat up.
When eating, eat slowly. Take time to really savor each bite. Enjoy meal time with family and friends. Have great conversation while eating with them. Give up the habit of eating on the couch in front of the TV, as this many cause you to eat more. You can also put your fork down between each bit, or take a sip of water after each bite. If you are still having a hard time eating slow, consider using chopsticks.
If you have lots of family functions, work get togethers, or other functions where food will be served, it is wise to eat beforehand. Eating just a light meal or snack is sufficient enough. Consider having a cheese stick and an apple or carrot and celery sticks with hummus. When at the party, look for fruits and veggies to munch on instead of dips and sweets that are high in both fat and calories.
